This is a wonderful finished 1:12 scale roombox with lots of nice details (and a wee bit of age). The roombox is probably from the 1990s, but I have just given the. All trim (including the window) a fresh coat of creamy ivory paint. I've also polished the floors with spray wax, and revitalized the window with a new photo-vista.
The box is made of solid wood, but is thin enough that it isn't terribly heavy. The outside of the box is stained in a warm walnut finish with a thin layer of lacquer.
The inside of the room has been well designed and. A six-panel real wood door on the left, with a brass door knob and plate. The door is non-working, glued closed within its doorframe.A large, beautiful picture window at the center back with 6-pane fan feature at its top, and a serene landscape scene on view through the remaining 20 panes (the view is a photograph and there is no "glass" of any type in the window, and no moving parts to the window frame). A fireplace likely cast resin? With a brick-feature printed on paper at the back of the "firebox".
And an over-mantle framed mirror. Wood paneled wainscoting on all three walls (painted a creamy off-white). Red and gold foiled wallpaper on all three walls above the wainscoting there is a little bubbling in some areas in the wallpaper, which you can see in the photos.
I think this is age related, in addition to possibly inconsistent gluing when first applied. In my opinion, it doesn't spoil the look of the room, but I wanted to mention it. This is the original wallpaper and has not been replaced by me. Ceiling moldings and floor molding (part of the wainscoting) on all three walls.A beautiful real wood floor, hand done, with darker planks around the perimeter and lighter wood forming a checkerboard parquet pattern at the center (the perimeter wood looks like it was stained a warm, dark mahogany color; the center checkerboard is warm cherry-stain borders around light oak center panels). I'm not sure if the woods used for the center checkerboard were ever so slightly thicker than the perimeter wood, but that center section is so very slightly higher than the perimeter flooring. It is not very noticeable at all, but I wanted to mention it.
An Asian-inspired print in a green wood frame on the wall with the door. It can be removed, but would leave a tear in the wallpaper that would have to be covered with another print or piece of tall furniture. The room was originally designed as an Asian-style room, but (besides the framed print, which you can replace) the only design feature that indicates this style is the wallpaper, which would be very appropriate in numerous alternative styles of rooms, so it is yours to decorate as you wish (or to strip and replace the existing wallpaper). The ceiling is flat and painted white. The room is not electrified for any lighting. There is no glass or plexi-glass panel for the front, and there are no "tracks" from a previous front-piece, so it is not designed to have a clear front. The bottom of the box is stamped. If you search Lowell's name, you will find that he made miniature wood furniture, so this leads me to believe that at the very least, he made the box and designed and laid the beautiful floor, and maybe the wainscoting. It is possible that he crafted the entire interior from the window to the wallpapering. Especially since I forgot to take a photo with a yardstick for scale: oops! To be sure you see the actual size. Exterior: 10" H x 17½" W x 12 D. Is a handcrafted pre-owned piece, in excellent condition, with a few age-related condition issues described above.
